the producer blokes saw shirley singing with her old band starfish on MTV and decided they wanted her as lead singer

ooooh and Butch Vig the drummer in garbage produced Nirvana's Nevermind album

Before that, Shirley was in late 80s band Goodbye Mr Mackenzie. They had one Top 40 hit, The Rattler, and the debut album Good Deeds & Dirty Rags, is a very fine record indeed.

The 2nd album Hammer & Tongs eventually came out in 1991, having been shelved by their record company the year before.

I held the 2-disc version in my hands today. Could've bought it too, if I'd wanted. Was quite tempted, but 13 quid seemed a lot, even for the SE.
