Of course!

They are basically a rock band (electric guitars) but mixed with electronica (the "background" of the songs).

Garbage even have some songs almost without guitars: Milk, You Look So Fine or The Trick Is to Keep Breathing. The percussion is very techno on some songs like Push It or Cherry Lips.
Also their studio production is complex: they use layers after layers of guitars, effects, synths, drums and so on. S/T album is alternative rock, Version 2.0 their most electronic album, Beautiful Garbage is very close to pop and Bleed Like Me has a stripped down sound, close to hard rock (sometimes).

Anyway there are some sparks of electronica on their sound.

PS check Garbage's Wikipedia page and look at Genres.

I think Stephen's been fairly comprehensively beaten down there. That enough for you, Steve? Or do you want more?!

I seen them in 1998. Was a fan then, not so much now.

I just don't get the 'electronic' side you're fighting for. Especially surprised at you Tilda considering how precious you are about the label electronic!

I wouldn't ever call them 'electronic', but they're definitely not a straight-up rock band either. It's a bit like when Muse use synths or something. Apart from Beautiful Garbage, which really was pop.

I'm so bad at genres though. It's easier to put everything in 'Alternative'

Ahh I know, the escape-clause.

Alternative.

I've seen everything from Catatonia to Pink Floyd thrown into that category :mrg:

Pink Floyd is progressive rock

Now about Garbage:
- they released a new song Witness to Your Love on a charity compilation

- Shirley' solo album probably will be released next year
- Butch Vig is producing the next Green Day album
- Shirley's mother passed away last month. RIP
- Shirley is also an actress: she's Catherine Weaver from TV series Terminator Sarah Chronicles (oh yeah, she's a badass!)

Shirley Manson confirms Garbage are reuniting for new album
Singer reveals that the band are working on new material and hints at 2011 tour
October 30, 2010

Garbage have reunited and are set to release their first album in five years, according to Shirley Manson.

Speaking to the Herald Scotland, the singer confirmed that the band are working on new material for their fifth LP "right now" and even hinted that they will tour next year.

The band went on hiatus in 2005 when Manson left to record a solo album, although no material was ever released following an apparent dispute with her record company.

She commented: "We've recorded quite a lot but it's difficult to quantify. We're just winging it right now."

Manson, who launched an acting career during the band's hiatus, alluded to the sessions in a message to her Facebook followers earlier this year.

Garbage's last studio album, 'Bleed Like Me', was released in 2005.
