Wow, no kidding. Great review, and I think the comparison of Nels Cline to Richard Thompson is apt; Cline is a singular talent on guitar, and I think Thompson is the greatest guitarist of the last half-century, bar none. But Cline is worthily in the top ten, though.

So jealous you'll get to hear them do "Impossible Germany" live! Th flurry of Televisionesque interlocked guitar at the end is stupendous enough on record; when I saw them do it on Austin City Limits a couple years ago, though, it was even greater.

Nels is indeed a guitar God and I can't believe I'm going to see him in Glasgow tomorrow! The set list from last night is a killer:

Wilco (The Song)
Bull Black Nova
You Are My Face
How To Fight Loneliness
One Wing
Via Chicago
Handshake Drugs
War On War
Impossible Germany
Someday, Some Morning, Sometime
Laminated Cat (Loose Fur cover)
I'll Fight
California Stars
Hate It Here
I'm Always In Love
Red-Eyed and Blue
I Got You (At the End of the Century)
A Shot In the Arm
Poor Places
You Never Know
Jesus, Etc.
Heavy Metal Drummer
I'm The Man Who Loves You

Now if they could just get Muzzle of Bees in there my life will be complete :smt007

Right! So this thread is well dead that I'm resurrecting here. Hopefully with such a Forum lull there's still some Wilco fans about. Really just posting to ask what y'all think of The Whole Love? I'm thinking it really cements Nels Cline's place in the band, with also some nods to the Yankee Hotel Foxtrot soundspace. While it might not quite be Summerteeth, I also don't think there's such a thing as a bad Wilco album.

Oh, and "Dawned on Me" is catchy as hell.

In 3 weeks, 1 day, and a handful of hours, I'll be seeing Wilco live at a free outdoor festival in Sioux City, Iowa.

Unfortunately that's a different festival, Paul, the one in Sioux Falls July 27. And if the temperatures we're already getting in June are any indication, we'll be in heat of Seventh-Circle Dantean proportions by the end of July. I've been impressed with what I've heard of Sena though and would like to see her some time. Her being "from the region" hopefully I'll have other opportunities ere long.

Argh! Someday, probably when I turn 80, I'll finally figure out the difference between Sioux City and Sioux Falls. Here I give people a hard time for confusing Zumbro Falls and Zumbrota. :smt043
