KT's Equipment Picks (from an interview published in Acoustic Guitar May 2008)
• Acoustic Guitars:
Gibson Doves. On Acoustic Extravaganza, KT Tunstall played a blonde Dove, and she has a black custom Elvis Presley Dove with a white pickguard and stars on the fretboard. Her backup guitar is a Gibson Hummingbird. Tunstall also plays a guitar given to her by Shinichi Arimitsu, a Japanese fan/luthier; in honor of Tunstall’s breakthrough hit, the guitar is inlaid with a black horse and cherry blossom.
• Electric Guitars:
White 1975 Gretsch Falcon and 1963 Gretsch Silver Jet. The hollow-body Falcon was originally rented for the Brit Awards, where she wanted to make her segment look as if it were in black and white. She was so smitten with the guitar her label bought it for her.
Both Doves use Fishman Acoustic Matrix Natural I pickup systems.
D’Addario EJ17 phosphor bronze mediums (.013–.053).
Jim Dunlop .73 gray nylons.
Akai E2 Headrush, nicknamed “Wee Bastard” by Tunstall.
