Some of you may or may not know that my Nandad has been in and out of hospital for a while. We don't know why. He just wasn't right. His legs were swollen. He had a huge amount of fluid in him which he lost most of. He was 15 stone. But then he went down to 10 stone after losing all the fluid.
Tuesday, he had a camera put in him, they couldn't put it down him properly because of the fluid, so instead they had to put it through his neck, through a vein. Afterwards he was in a massive amount of pain and didn't want to see anyone etc..
Yesterday however, the hospital told him not to get up because he had been on morphene to get rid of the pain a day before. However, being the stubborn man he always has been, he got up and went to the toilet at about 7:30am. He was told to get back to bed, so he did. Later on, however, about 8:30ish they phoned my Nan and recommended she went up because he'd hit a down side. So my Mum and Auntie went up with her.
The lift apparently took about 5 minutes, and by the time they got up to the ward a nurse told them that he had passed away 4 minutes beforehand after having trouble breathing and they said they had spent a lot of time trying to bring him back but failed of course.
He wasn't only my Nandad, but he really was my best friend aswell. Out of the whole family, he's really the only one that really understood me. I'm absolutely heart broken. I loved him so, so, so much. The last time I saw him was on my birthday, last week.
Everyone really is so upset and shocked. I'm at my grandparents' house at the moment as is my Auntie looking after my Nan and we're all just so..lost and empty. The three of us are just constantly wandering around, we really have no idea what to do with ourselves.

RIP Nandad. xxxxxx

:( I'm so sorry to hear that.
I used to call my grandad 'nandad' too - and he had a similar problem and was on morphine.
It was a horrible time, and he passed away in 2004, when I was 15.

I hope things get better for you soon, really.

Hopefully he's in a better place now.

I was close with my grampa when he took a surprizing exit as well. I was 18 and it was the hardest time in my life. That was almost 13 years ago now. Things will get easier, as time goes on, I promise. I can feel my grampa with me, at times, now. When I truely need him, he comforts me, although it's his spirit, I know it's him and that he loves me. It will be the same for you when you can accept it, although it took me awhile..... He is ok and you won't ever be without him, as he will always be in your heart. Hugs to you and I'm sorry his body can no longer comfort you but he'll always be watching you now ... so you better stay good! :smt056 I'm sorry for your families loss.

Jess, I'm so sorry to hear about your loss :smt056

I lost my grandfather when I was 11, and looking back it ripped the heart out of our extended family unit. I don't think we ever recovered from the way it all happened, and the way he was taken from us slowly over the course of several years.
