I'm so sorry to hear that Mis, it's so hard when you lose someone. My nan passed away in 1999 but i still think about her everyday. I have a box of her things which i like to look at now and again.

You're great aunt will always be with you! Never forget that! It's just over 7 years since my nan died and i still find myself talking to her! I'll be thinking of you! :smt056

Sorry to hear about your great aunt Mis ~ a "great" aunt in more ways than one, huh? Hope you're ok, and that your family keep spirits up.

xx

What a wonderful idea! I definitely think we should, if we can decide on something...

I've just learned of the death of a friend. We lost touch when she moved away, so I never got the chance to pay my respects at the funeral.

So I'll do it here.

Hope you've found peace, Jean. Goodbye dear lady.

It's me again. I hope this is not becoming a habit.

I'd like to say a few words about Elsie Tyler, who passed awayat 13:15 GMT yesterday (22nd March), at the grand age of 95. She was born a couple of months before the Titanic went down!

Elsie was my mother-in-law until I was divorced from Lorraine. Lorraine and I never bad mouthed each other to the kids and did all we could together on their behalf to give them a stable base. Lorraine was her only child.

Because of the help I gave her, and Lorraine since she was diagnosed with breast cancer in 1996 (to take as much weight as possible off the kids who were 14 and 18 at the time), Elsie said she would always still think of me as her son-in-law.

Elsie had been a buffer in the Sheffield cutlery trade and did 'mens' work during WW II. So she was a tough old boot. But that was in the days before health and safety. She got dust on her lungs which eventually led to COPD.

She was still doing all her shopping and housework into her nineties. Then she went into sheltered accommodation.

On the 25th September, 2 years ago, I sat beside her bed in the Northern General Hospital, holding her hand all night. They thought she wouldn't last til the morning. I remember the date cos that's Lorraine's birthday, and she couldn't cope with it.

She went into a nursing home and had to wear oxygen tubes up her nose for 15 hours a day. They rang me yesterday as they could not contact Lorraine. They'd called a doctor but Elsie refused to go to hospital for a chest X-ray. When they rang back it was to say she had died. It fell to me to tell Lorraine, and I went with her to the nursing home and stayed until the funeral directors had been.

R.I.P., Elsie. Go nag the angels and give me a bl**dy rest!
