Day 1. Wednesday May 7th. SAN FRANCISCO, CA

I got up at 4:45am to prepare for my early flight to San Francisco and I arrived perfectly on time in San Fran at about 11am after flying over the Rocky mountains.. Gorgeous. ST and her hubby so kindly picked me up at the airport and we dropped the stuff at the hotel and then tried to catch a cable car to Fisherman's Warf to have lunch. Operative word being 'tried'.. apparently the one specific cable car that we needed was broken down and thus died my dream of riding in a cable car in San Fran.. lol. We ended up walking all the way to the warf, which was actually really great. I got to walk down Lombard Street "the crookedest" street and took in a lot of sights. After lunch, we took a cab to Coit Tower to get a birds eye view of the bay area and then it was on to the hotel for a freshening up before the KT show and figure out where we were going to be able to grab a very quick dinner.

Now, on to the important stuff.. the KT show!! lol. The venue was in a less than desirable area of town.. let's just say, pimps n ho's were plentiful... haha. The actual venue was right next to "Crazy Horse Gentleman's Club" complete with a marquee of chicks with flashing nipples. I was pretty glad to get in the doors, even though I was searched like a prisoner.. lol.

The set list goes as follows:

Miniature Disasters
Little Favors
Hold On
Otherside of the World
Someday Soon
Funny Man
Solo Tune - Paper Aeroplane
Black Horse
Ashes
Hopeless
Under The Weather
Beauty of Uncertainty
If Only
Saving My Face
Suddenly I See
----------------------
ENCORE
Universe and You
Ain't Nobody
Stoppin the Love

The acoustic set is incredible!! Of course we knew it wold be! My favorite song from the night was Beauty of Uncertainty. There were no backing singers for this show and I love that because it means more KT! Finally, as I always expected she should do, she layered up Beauty of Uncertainty with Wee Bastard so amazingly that by the end it was almost orgasmic. I almost cried.. lol. KT never ceases to amaze me with her ability to constantly refresh her older material to make it sound even better, for instance, BHATCT, She did a really cool litte guitar solo in the middle of the song that timed out so perfectly with the stop and start of the pedal looping over again.. it was simply amazing. Though I did find myself wishing for a little bit of "baby please don't go" in the middle, she replaced that with the funky little guitar solo and I totally forgot about it! Before she did 'Under the Weather' she said that she was so glad to be in a place that actually has weather and expressed her joy of not being boiling hot everyday. Something cute that she did in UTW, she sang "trying to find my umbrella - ella- ella. This is a real crowd pleaser and KT gives a little grin.

She was very witty and engaging with the fans as usual, but even more so with this crowd, stating that she garners San Francisco as her spiritual US home. She made us do the body pop (San Fran had the weird Indian head bob body pop, apparently from smoking too much pot), crow like tropical birds and shared, not one, not two, but THREE random facts!

Fact 1: US cemeteries bury approximately 90,000 tons of steel into the ground each year, which is the equivalant of burying one Golden Gate Bridge a year. Therefore she proposes to be burried in a cardboard box and "recycle ourselves"..lol

Fact 2: Two San Francisco cops were recently discovered as moonlighters in the porn industry.

Fact 3: Marine fish can stay alive in a tank of BLOOD! (Said with the usual KT enthusiasm)

After the show, ST and I were so giddy that we left the venue hugging each other and squeeing until we were removed by security and thrust back into the Hood where we proceeded to go around back and scope out the tour bus and lined up with a few other brave souls to wait for KT and the boys to emerge. And so, we waited. And waited. Finally, the pimps, ho's and junkies proved to be too threatening and we decided, after about an hour, to catch a cab and get the hell out of there and back to the safety of our hotel, which was quite nice. Plus, at that point I had been awake for about 25 hours and was feeling a bit weary. So, alas, no KT encounter in San Fran, but we reassured ourselves because we still had Portland and Seattle on the horizon!

We left San Fran this morning after stopping at the IHOP and then the Golden Gate Bridge for a little photo-op and then on the road again!

Day 2. Thursday May 8th.

This day was spent on the road since the drive to Portland takes 10 hours. ST, CT and I stopped off in Eugene Oregon, a quaint little college town where we found a local pub and had burgers and drinks. This was a cool little time in our adventure where we finally let our guards down and just hung out and took it all in and had the comforting feeling that we were with good friends.

Stay tuned for Portland and Seattle!

Lisa

Thank you Lisa for this report! So good to hear from you and your KT adventures! :mrg:

Random facts are as usual very funny

Too bad you didn't meet with Lady T afterwards but hopefully other opportunities will emerge!

Can't wait to hear the rest of your stories :D

(and see some pics maybe? )

Fabulous review!! I'm getting kinda jealous over here reading it... :p
Oh and you're totally right about BHATCT, love the stop in the middle!! I think it was born in Brussels when it accidentally went wrong with the wee bastard  Best improvisation EVER.

Hope she does an acoustic tour in the UK as well (I might come over :D) or better yet, at Werchter, a bit closer to home.

Can't wait to hear the rest of your adventures, have fun!!!!!

Thanks for the review. Sounds aces so far. :smt023

That quaint little college (University of Oregon) town is where I was born. Ha Ha! :smt005
If the IHOP was the one off of I5, then I lived about a mile from there.
Quaint little college town indeed

Oh there is much more to come, kids. ;)

I just want to publicly thank Lisa for being such a great pal. She literally either emailed or called me every day to fill me in on the trip goings-on and the shows since I couldn't hit the road with everyone this time around. You're the bestest, Lisa! :D
