Was randomly listening to music on the tram this afternoon, and I thought KT's voice would go REALLY well with music that has violins/cello's/trumpets in it. Not even those/more instruments necessarily, but just music with more sound, big sound. If that makes sense. A different use of the music.
A la Bon Iver, Feist, Sufjan Stevens etc, but with KT's stamp on it. I think BOU came close already to what I mean.
I'm not really sure if that's actually what you'd call ambient. I suck at recognising genres. They're overrated anyway.

On the other hand...

I'd LOVE more dancey like TS too, maybe even a bit more. :-D
And I'd like more bass please. I totally did miss Arnie with his double bass.

So, what would you particularly like to hear/see on a next album? What kind of direction would you like to see her go? Stay in the folk/pop like before TS, jazz, blues (I know there's gonna be quite some votes for that one  ) more nature techno or something entirely different again?

It's probably unfair to want an artist, especially one as restless and forward-looking as KT, to go backwards to a sound she used to have, but if she were to at least revisit and recapture that vibe from Black Horse, I'd be thrilled. I heard it come over the PA system in a supermarket last week and it STILL blows me away. It grabs you like nothing else she's done; the way her voice really lets rip and the whole style is very direct.

So yeah, maybe an EP with her and the wee bastard reunited

I love Scarlet Tulip EP but a steady diet of just KT and her guitar
may wear out. Somewhere between that and the variety of music
styles like on ETTT would be great.

She said she wrote around 75 songs this last round. Let's hear them!

Then some straightaway rock and roll:

She might even try something with a latin beat:

It's a good question Kim.....I wasn't sure about the whole "Nature Techno" thing, but found it to be the KT Album that I default to even if ETTT has my favourite songs on it.

The likelihood is I would warm to almost anything KT does (within reason...if she went rap or MOBO I may go moping off into a hole somewhere disparing :smt009 ) and a change is as good as a rest.

I like your orchestral idea - the Kaiser Chiefs electric proms gig back in 2007 collaborated with the James Bond score-master David Arnold and the way Modern Way was enhanced by a full orchestral backing was mind-blowing. (Reminds me - someone has that DVD of mine somewhere!)

I would totally go for a rock 'n roll album with a bit of a bluesy feel. I always thought her voice sounds perfect with bluesy tunes. But a full band with violins and stuff like that (which brings us a bit back to ETTT, right?) would be great as well. And I totally agree with Kim on Arnie's double bas!

I guess she could so something entirely different again as well. She's so multitalented. Who knows what she might come up with next? I wasn't sure about the 'nature techno' at first, but I got to love the album in the end. So wathever she's planning, bring it on! :)

Wow, that's a load of different ideas right there
And still we all like Tiger Suit the same!

Black Horse is an odd one for me, I remember hearing it the first time and I just thought 'what's with the woo hoo's?!' and stopped it  (teenagers are that harsh I guess :p ) Now I still don't really listen to it much even though I enjoy it when it comes on randomly, it's one of the few off ETTT that I used to skip, but at the same time live it's one of my favourite tunes!!

I agree with the wee bastard bit though. Although I REALLY used to miss it with Drastic Fantastic mostly, not so much on the tours this year at all. But it used to be why I really disliked the backing singers  Wee bastard betrayal!!

Oh and re blues, I think she does it really well and her voice is great for it, but it seems so straightforward for her to do so that I'd be quite bored with it soon I think.
But yeah Paul, the way she uses her voice in those clips I totally missed!! She's been singing differently and I don't like the new style as much as how she used to sing. It's not her natural/relaxed sound, and that's just the most beautiful part of her voice! I also got the impression that she'd really worn out her voice a bit at the end of tours this last year, but I'm not sure if that's cause of using it differently or if that's normal. Maybe it's to be expected with so many shows!

I'd also REALLY like it if she'd do her own stuff in the style she covered the Simple Minds in. Gorgeous :D
And she should totally continue with the awesome backingvocals!!

This ^^ I'm not suggesting she should become a Seasick Steve clone but something like the two tracks she performed live with him in 2008 (Happy Man, The Letter) or something like One Day with Sam's wonderful slide guitar - THAT is probably the closest to my ideal KT sound.

Although I like Tiger Suit too

^^Agreed. An album with a more bluesy style I've wanted for ages.. I'm pretty sure I've said it before many times

I don't think it would necessarily get boring, there's many layers to work with the bluesy sound or maybe I just like blues too much

A heavier rockier sound, and with Charlotte on guitar..well...they could write some good rock numbers...

Totally agree with the bluesy style. :smt023 It sounds crazy, but i'd like to hear KT's voice with a sax (i love that instrument). :mrg:

I like TS too. She could add the exact dose of "nature techno" without spoiling her original style. But if she follows this way, she has to be careful: nature techno in excess could be risky.

Anyway, KT faces a nice challenge. I'm sure she won't disappoint us, we all trust in her. :smt023

Nail on the head pal!! :D
I guess I mean a style where the music itself is less 'just' supporting in a song but more of equal importance to vocals/lyrics.
With KT I think it would be especially great as I think she's really good at putting dynamics into a song, build-ups, bridges etc. And there may definitely be bolder songs than Lazarus too 8)
And with her rhythm tricks added to the mix I can already hear the fireworks going off!! :-D
